Two Step Sparring

Two Step Sparring (Ibo Matsoki)
Two Step Sparring follows on from Three Step Sparring and is designed to allow the student to progress and learn more advanced techniques. Two Step Sparring uses the same distance and timing as with three step sparring, but with a variety of attacks.
All attackers start in a right L stance, forearm guarding block. The attacker will step forward twice whilst executing two different attacks.
All defenders start in a parallel ready stance. The defender will perform two blocks and then a counter attack.

BASIC LEVEL
1. Attacker: High punch then front snap kick
Defender – Blocks: Left leg back into walking stance, rising block then right leg back into walking stance X fist pressing block
Defender – Counter Attack: Twin vertical punch.

2. Attacker: Side punch (right hand) in fixed stance then turning kick
Defender – Blocks: Right leg back into L stance, upward palm block then left leg back into L stance, waist block
Defender – Counter Attack: Slide forward into right L stance right side elbow strike to solar plexus.

3. Attacker: Front snap kick then twin vertical punch
Defender – Blocks: Right leg back into walking stance, x-fist pressing block left then Left leg back into walking stance, outer forearm wedging block.
Defender – Counter Attack: Reach forward and seize shoulders then perform a knee kick to the abdomen.

4. Attacker: Flat fingertip thrust then side kick
Defender – Blocks: Right leg back into walking stance, knifehand rising block then left leg back into L stance, inward palm block
Defender – Counter Attack: Front snap kick to coccyx then twin upset punch to kidneys .

ADVANCED LEVEL

5. Attacker: Right back kick then high palm strike
Defender – Blocks: Right leg back into L stance, palm waist block then left leg back into L stance outer forearm inward block
Defender – Counter Attack: Right walking stance reverse knife hand inward strike with the right hand (whilst slipping right foot).

6. Attacker: Right high section turning kick then left walking stance high section arc-hand strike
Defender – Blocks: Sitting stance twin straight forearm block then right L stance palm hooking block (grabbing the attacker’s arm)
Defender – Counter Attack: Whilst still holding the attacker’s arm perform a left side kick.

7. Attacker: Right fixed stance side fist side strike then left middle reverse turning kick
Defender – Blocks: Left L stance twin forearm block then right L stance knifehand guarding block (sliding away using the block as a guard only)
Defender – Counter Attack: Right high section reverse turning kick.

8. Attacker: Right middle side kick then right L stance knifehand high strike (turning anti-clockwise)
Defender – Blocks: Right L stance inner forearm block then right L stance knifehand guarding block (double stepping)
Defender – Counter Attack: Left X stance high section back fist side strike.
